Painful periods are not to be ignored as they could be caused by having a disease called endometriosis - a condition that is partly caused by immune dysfunction and is not caused by hormone imbalance (as previously thought).

Endometriosis. Now there’s a condition I have lived with since my periods started at age 11. They got heavier and heavier… then painful and more painful as the years went by. I had a lot of doctor visits at this time… Until I was told by a newly qualified nurse in the UK that she thinks I “may” have endometriosis based on an educated guess.

I Got Diagnosed With Endometriosis Quicker Than Most Women

Fast forward another 2 years and I had my first laparoscopy where it turned out she was right.

When it came to my diagnosis time, I was one of the lucky ones as I found out quicker than the average of 7-10 years.
Some other major symptoms for me were chronic digestive issues and painful intercourse.

So. Remember: painful periods are NOT normal and NOT something you just have to live with until menopause! This could be a sign something is very wrong in there! And it is ALWAYS best to check out your symptoms with a gynaecologist who has experience with endometriosis plus the different types of surgery options and is pro lifestyle and diet modification for managing the condition (as much as is possible).

As that is what I have been using for many years now and I am also completely synthetic drug-free (even though most gynaecologists want me to try synthetic drugs to manage the issue as sadly that’s all many know about).

What Is Endometriosis?

So, what is endometriosis exactly? 🤔
🖍Endometriosis is an inflammatory condition where endometrial tissue (similar to the lining of the uterus) grows outside the uterus.
🖍It is estimated that 1 in 10 women have it globally.
🖍Although hormone imbalances can be common in people with endometriosis, hormone imbalance is not usually the cause of it but rather a symptom.
🖍It is well established that the immune system of women with endometriosis is dysfunctional.

Always Get Your Women’s Health Symptoms Checked Out

Painful periods are not always endometriosis but painful periods are often caused by this condition and yet it is sadly so often underdiagnosed as a cause. To improve your quality of life I always recommend anyone who is struggling with period pain (or other symptoms related to their cycle) visit a gynaecologist and also sees a functional medicine nutritionist alongside.

As seeing the two together can be very powerful for getting to the bottom of your women issues and will create a truly whole-body approach to getting your life and health back.
