Cows milk. Many governments and marketing companies working for the dairy industry promote it as being good for our health. But a recent study looking at over 100 top studies on milk suggests it is not as healthy as some suggest and that we seriously need to look at good quality science when it comes to this topic and any recommendations made to the public about consuming it.

100 Top Studies On Cow’s Milk Suggest Health Benefits Lacking

The study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine by Walter C. Willett, M.D., Dr.P.H, and David S. Ludwig, M.D., Ph.D., found that milk consumption is “associated to the risks of fracture, obesity, cardiovascular disease, allergies, and various cancers.”

Thank you to Ronald Grisanti from the Functional Medicine University (@fmu_drgrisanti)for bringing this to our attention.

Cow’s Milk Can Increase Insulin-Like Growth Factor

Ronald Grisanti also mentioned that other studies looking at milk consumption found it to “increase insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) which has been associated with several major health conditions, including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and cognitive function in the elderly.”

The Food Industry Should Play Fair

I work in an industry where we are heavily criticised as Nutritional Therapists for not being scientific enough (this claim is not always backed up however and I always base my advice to clients or research in my written health work on science!), yet governments need to do a better job of also ensuring good science is referenced before making public health guidelines especially when it comes to what the public should be eating and drinking.
