Sometimes a woman with endometriosis may think or be told by doctors that she has ‘IBS’ (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). This is because in most cases, but not all, the endometriosis has affected the bowel, with endo lesions growing on the surface of the bowel or passing through the bowel wall.

Symptoms of “bowel” endometriosis can include:

  • Painful sex
  • Pain when pooping
  • Period pain
  • Constipation or diarrhoea
  • Trouble falling pregnant
  • Blocked bowels (although rare)

If you are a female experiencing “IBS” symptoms or the symptoms listed above, then it is always wise to see a healthcare practitioner and ask them to rule out endometriosis (or other conditions that could be the cause if it is not endo).
