Plants Boost Oxygen Levels

Our bodies always need an oxygen boost. It is after all the very life support of our breath. Whilst many plants during the day take in carbon dioxide and let out oxygen, most then will reverse this action during the evening time. Making it important to choose for your bedroom especially, those house plants that release oxygen at night and carbon dioxide in the day, to help induce a night of better quality and healthier sleep. The house plants that do this are; Areca Palm, Aloe Vera Plant, Neem Tree, Snake Plant, Gerbera Plant, Tulsi Tree, and the Peepal Tree.

Science Says Plants Help Us Heal

The Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine published a study in 2009 that stated: “Ornamental indoor plants in hospital rooms enhanced health outcomes of patients recovering from surgery.” This particular study concluded with the following quote: “Findings of this study confirmed the therapeutic value of plants in the hospital environment as a noninvasive, inexpensive, and effective complementary medicine for surgical patients. Health care professionals and hospital administrators need to consider the use of plants and flowers to enhance healing environments for patients.” Patients in this study also reported feeling “reduced stress” during their hospital stay, which is bound to help the body recover quicker.

Plants Lower Humidity

High humidity levels in the home provide the favoured environment for flu germs to spread and can increase the chances of getting sore throats, colds and dry skin. With a study at the Agricultural University of Norway stating that plants used in and around the home can in fact decrease the chances of suffering from any of these health problems due to their ability to transpire moisture from their leaves.
