The first supermarket chain in the UK to ban sales of high-caffeine energy drnks to under 16’s is Morrison’s.

The ban of such drinks applies to specific brands whose product contains over 150mg of caffeine per litre.

The  major brands to therefore be affected are: Red Bull (320mg), Monster (338mg), and Relentless (320mg).

The most popular energy drinks are extremely high in sugar, caffeine and taurine. Taurine is an organic acid and a major constituent of bile which can be found in the large intestine.

A heavy consumption of these types of drinks has even been linked with the deaths of several young people over the last few years.

Even more natural options that avoid synthetic caffeine and taurine available often contain high levels of sugar and fructose, the latter can be just as damaging to our health as table sugar.
