Regular nut consumption has been found to be able to increase life expectancy according to a new study published in the The New England Journal of Medicine.

‘Association of Nut Consumption with Total and Cause-Specific Mortality’ was the title of the study and it was carried out by Dr Bao and his research team at the Channing Division of Network Medicine. The study drew data from 118,962 people over a 30 year period.

The research participants were given questionnaires to ask how often they had eaten a 28g serving of nuts during the last year.

From this information, the research team were able to conclude that those who ate nuts regularly were likely to live longer that those who did not. The results were still the same when the research team even took other risk factors into consideration.

Consumption of nuts seven times a week, reduced the risk of dying from all health related causes by 20%, and for those who only ate nuts only once a week the reduction in their risk of dying was 7%.

Overall these are great findings, and provide so much evidence to support the notion that to live a long and healthy life free of disease a healthy diet is a must, and one fact that cannot be ignored.
