What exactly is Endometriosis?

“Endometriosis is NOT a hormonal condition. It’s affected by oestrogen but it’s not CAUSED by oestrogen or “oestrogen dominance. Instead, endometriosis is a whole-body inflammatory and immune disease, and possibly a MICROBIAL disease.” – Lara Briden, author of my favourite book ‘Period Repair Manual’.

I have endometriosis and it’s my mission as a nutritionist and lifestyle guide to help womxn everywhere become aware of the symptoms and get the correct treatment if they are diagnosed with this awful condition.

According to Endometriosis.org 1 in 10 women have endometriosis, which equates to approximately 176 million womxn in the world. This is a huge number!

Endometriosis Symptoms

Endometriosis symptoms can include:

  • painful periods (before & during)
  • long periods
  • heavy periods
  • painful sex
  • painful bowel movements
  • fatigue
  • painful urination (during menstruation)
  • regular bloating/constipation/diarrhoea and/or nausea
  • frequent yeast infections (vaginal and/or gastrointestinal)
  • infertility
  • leg pain
  • back pain
  • bleeding from the bowel
  • depression
  • feeling faint/fainting during periods
  • blood in the urine
  • pre-menstrual spotting
  • ovulation pain
  • no symptoms at all

It is important to remember some womxn can have absolutely no symptoms at all yet still have endometriosis, and the severity of your endometriosis may not equate to the pain you feel.

Endometriosis Diagnosis Timeframe & Treatment Updates

What is really disturbing is many womxn are misdiagnosed on multiple occasions which then leads them to take inappropriate advice and treatment.

What is also shocking is that it on average takes 10 YEARS to be diagnosed with endometriosis.

Currently, there is no proven cure for endometriosis but there are several strategies that are natural and non-invasive that can manage this condition successfully including bio-identical progesterone cream, vitamin, and mineral therapy, removing problem foods (such as gluten, dairy, and eggs). Extreme cases may require a laparoscopy.

Also, do remember and take note that:

  • Endometriosis can target any womxn, of ANY age and from ANY culture, race or background.
  • Pregnancy and Hysterectomy are NOT CURES for endometriosis.

Please share this vital information far and wide to anyone that might have any of these symptoms and may have been given a misdiagnosis.
