For a long time it has been said that there are many benefits to be obtained by owning a pet. And now – here is more research to back that up. As the University of Minnesota has discovered that people who don’t have a cat are at a 40 percent higher risk of having a heart attack and a 30 percent higher risk of dying from heart disease.

The benefits come from petting your cat as this increases the production of ‘oxytocin’ – the stress-lowering hormone, which helps to boost feelings of trust, love and connection with others.

So even if you can’t own your own cat right now, why not volunteer at your local animal shelter. I am sure there are many animal shelters in your local area that would appreciate a helping hand. Plus the cats will also benefit from all the petting they receive whilst waiting for their forever home!
