Nourish facial team TreeXOffice Shoreditch Hoxton London

Why edible? Well, whilst I am not suggesting you turn to a pot of Nourish skin cream to help you out when the food cupboards are bare, I am suggesting you choose to only put products onto your skin that meet the same healthy credentials as the food that you put into your body must also meet when choosing it. As both food and the products we put on our skin end up in the same place – our bloodstream. And once here, the broken down ‘ingredients’ if you like of both, will go on to either love your insides, or harm them.

Making a Firm Healthier Choice

Because I know which camp I sit on, this is what prompted me to attend the free facials Nourish Organic Skincare were offering at the TreeXOffice in the uber trendy Hoxton Square, London area, as I really wanted to get to know the story behind the Nourish range, and get to know better the ‘real deal’ ingredients. Plus, it is always good to support a great cause as the free facials were in aid of raising funds for Pack Hack, a project focused on the regeneration of urban parks by Groundwork.

Treated Like a Queen

When I arrived for my free facial, I was met by the most wonderful and friendly team from Nourish and immediately could see and hear the passion they have for the brand. All backed up by lots of quality and educational information on their brand and what sets their products apart from other natural and organic skincare products out there.

One of whom even took my son whilst I had the facial! For which I am eternally grateful, as this post pregnancy skin needed a good taking care of with skin-loving products. Not being able to get natural and organic products at every salon is what puts me off going for facials as those in my area only offer products a) full of chemicals which can cause aging and b) are tested on animals. Both of which Nourish skin care range are proud to do neither of.

When I sat down to have my facial, the lady asked me about my current skin care regime and offered me some insightful ways to better this by using the products I already owned, and how just by adding a couple more Nourish products I could really start slowing down the signs of aging that are appearing around my eyes. Another post pregnancy side effect from spending a year being sleep deprived! (But I would have it no other way as my son is my world!)

Skin Nurturing Post Baby

Still, as I approach 30, it is time to really start preparing for the natural aging wrinkles that will appear in anycase from the fact our bodies start to slow down producing collagen that is responsible for keeping our skin nice and tight. And so after having done my research into the ingredients in Nourish, and having sampled the ones I had my eyes on today, I am going to be investing asap in the following three products:

  1.  Nourish Kale Biomimetic Anti-Aging Eye Cream
  2. Nourish Relax Hydrating Peptide Serum
  3. Nourish Kale Enzymatic Exfoliating Cleanser

With the exfoliating cleanser, I especially liked the sound of how it tackles pollution properly which can contribute towards aging and dull lifeless skin, and with the peptide serum it will be perfect for my very dehydrated skin to use at night time, giving it a chance to really work its natural nutrient rich magic!

I do find their products affordable, even though they can seem like they have a luxury price tag when compared to chemical laden products that line most supermarket shelves, but their products demonstrate the way all skincare should be made – good for our planet (and our bodies), ethically tested and rich in bioavailable nutrients. Another reason I feel the prices are justifiable is because they will last you for several months (remember a small amount goes a long way with these types of quality products!), and so it is not like you will be having to purchase them every month.

You might find it interesting to note that as I type this account of my Nourish facial, my skin feels amazingly soft, smooth and looks so radiant, and it is 24 hours later. So as of now, I am a Nourish skincare range convert! And I genuinely look forward to trying the free samples I was given in my goody bag by the wonderful Nourish team and using the £5 voucher that they had kindly popped in there too!

Get Out There and Improve Your Current Skincare Regime

If you are new to the world of organic beauty, or would simply like to learn more about the benefits it can have to your skin, then check out the Campaign for Clarity which is a new campaign set up by the Soil Association (the main organic certification body for the UK, and which Nourish are supporting), which aims to expose brands not living up the organic definition they throw about willy nilly on their products, and not having the goods to back it up so to speak when it comes down to it. As it is all too easy to write the word ‘organic’ on a beauty product because the same legal standards that define organic food, are not in place and do not apply currently to organic skin and beauty care products.

Another great resource to read and learn about the benefits of switching to organic beauty products, is the guide by Sustain – The Alliance for Better Food and Farming, that helps to shatter many myths that surround organic produce, and really sets the record straight that using organically grown food, and skincare products, is safer for us and the planet if we want to keep it beautiful.

And finally, be sure to get to know the ingredients in your current skincare products, and do some research into whether they are as safe as the manufacturers make out. A great resource in this area is the Environmental Working Group, and their website is full of information on individual ingredients to help you decide whether you should be using them or should rather go on to avoid them in future if they could harm your health.
