how to fall in love with organic this september in three easy steps

New to the wonders of organic food? Well this is your month to take advantage of the wonderful organic delights on special offer (some as much as 20% off in places!), and make a difference to your health and that of the precious half pints running around.

What is Organic September?

Organic September is the chance for organically certified food to be celebrated and raved about all over the UK, from tiny independent health food stores to big chain supermarkets.

Emphasis from the campaign this year is also on encouraging shoppers to switch one of their regular food items for the organic equivalent all month long, and hopefully the foreseeable future, to go about helping The Soil Association to continue on their mission to demonstrate that by switching to organic food, you can make a huge difference to the environment, people and animal welfare. The Soil Association is also the creator of the Organic September campaign and the awarding organic certification body for a lot of organically certified products in the UK.

So, to all the organic newbies, don’t be shy this September! Go experiment with all the delights that are on offer, but before you do check out my 3 easy steps to go about helping you fall in major love with the organic choices you make this September:

Step 1: Educate Yourself – Commit to spending 5 minutes looking on popular search engines into the dangers of conventionally grown food vs. the benefits of consuming organically grown/ reared food. You will be shocked that  the herbicides, pesticides and fungicides used on commercial crops are so deadly that some have been linked to causing infertility to cancer. These toxic chemicals do not just harm the people and animals that consume them, but the workers too that come into contact with them.

Whilst digging for reasons to switch to eating organic food, be sure to look into how there is a vast difference in happiness and treatment to animals from both sides of the farming coin. And given that new research from Mintel shows that when it comes to making food and drink choices, 74% say of UK shoppers say animal welfare is their top ethical concern, I just know you will be able to sleep easier at night when you start buying organic meat and eggs.

Step 2: Take Advantage of Organic Septembers Savings – Type in ‘organic’ on most supermarkets online shopping apps and you will see that many are running specials on their organic items all month long. Pop into your local independent health store and you will see that they too are running a whole host of specials too on their incredible choice of organic products. In your local health store you will find more than just organic food, as all offer you organic skin care and beauty products too just waiting to be discovered by people like you who care about what you put in to your body and who care that their products weren’t cruelly tested on our animal friends.

By signing up to The Soil Associations free guide that explains in more detail how your one small organic switch can make a huge difference, you will also be notified of many of the incredible Organic September special offers available throughout the UK too.

Step 3: Think About The Future of The Planet – Just when Organic September is drawing to a close, and you are tempted to go back to eating the conventional version of the one item you switched for organic earlier on in the month, think about how there will be no healthy planet for our children to grow up in if you and everyone else switch back. Together, we all play a part in defining the state of our planets health for the next generation, and the health of that next generation, and their generation. And everyone’s health, today and tomorrow, is secured by the whole planet eating more organic food and eventually phasing out conventionally grown / reared food.
