When it comes to buying fresh vegetables, we are all guilty of wasting items from time to time. But simply knowing how to store fresh vegetables and fruit correctly can ensure you do not have to waste any more food before it has gone rotten, but also before it has simply wilted which many people mistakenly think means the vegetable has gone rotten.

My tip today is to ensure you keep your broccoli happy by storing him correctly in the fridge.

Simply on the day you buy Mr. Broccoli, make a small slice across his stem in the centre from end to end. So you are not cutting anything off him, just slicing him open a little. Then place him in short glass of clean purified water and keep him in the fridge until you are ready to use him.

Storing broccoli in this way will ensure you get at least twice the regular lifespan of a broccoli not stored in water, which is approximately 2 weeks. But remember – do use your fruit and veg as quick as possible to get the maximum nutrient value out of any item.
