Every year, people are pressured to write a list of resolutions for the new year. A list that people write very well, have every intention of doing but in reality how many people complete their list? This year I am reinventing the New Year’s Resolutions. Instead of writing a list of things you want to achieve, want to go etc, try writing a list of positive affirmations instead, because achieving your goals in life start with a healthy outlook.

Affirmations are positive statements or words that you declare to yourself and the universe, out loud or in your head – to be true. For example I had not long started driving, and I was driving one day, and told myself, “I can’t drive, I don’t get this driving thing, I really can’t drive” and as I was saying this I nearly had an accident I was all over the place – I really could not drive at that point! Then I started telling myself, “I can drive, I can drive” and I started driving fine and have done ever since! It was amazing. Life changing. So I started applying this to everything in my life. When I had no confidence and thought I could not do something, I just told myself I could and would do it.

So for your new years ‘affirmations’ why not pick five words or phrases that you can say to yourself when the going gets tough, or in a situation you would simply like to fix.

Here are some that I use in my life to get you going:

1. Situation: I feel like I am not going to do something well and there is just too much pressure on me

Affirmation phrase: “I can do this, and I will do this well.”

2. Situation: If I have not been as ‘regular’ as normal (which is usually from stress as I am very effected by this!)

Affirmation: “All of me is relaxed, and I release easily.”

3. Situation: If I want to achieve something (I will say this over and over and focus on it in my mind too even when I am not saying it as this draws it to you.)

Affirmation: “I will get (insert what your end goal is you want to achieve) and it will be a success.”

4. Situation: If I feel down for no genuinely good reason

Affirmation: “I have so much good in my life and so much that I am grateful for.”

5. Situation: If I feel a little unwell, or a cold coming.

Affirmation: ” I am well, I am well, I am well.”

So you can see affirmation words and phrases can be used in all sorts of situations – in fact any situation. It is all about not allowing the negative to take over and cloud your rational thinking. As thinking negatively is simply that – just thoughts, and often not reality. All you need to do is start using them daily, repeating them over and over either in your head or aloud and watch your life change!

The confidence that you see you have as a result of affirmations is like a seed. The more you nourish it and tell yourself good things, the more your confidence will grow! As it is more confidence and less fear that helps get anything done.

Happy New Year to all my wonderful fans and supporters, and I would love to hear from you with your positive affirmations for 2012 so do leave a comment below.
